Appliance error codes are never a welcome sight, but they are actually pretty handy! Error codes help you figure out the nature of the error, which helps narrow your search for the solution. For Frigidaire ovens, the F10 error code usually indicates a problem with the temperature sensor—and luckily, there are quite a few simple fixes you can implement yourself at home! Read on to find out how.

What does the F10 error mean?
The F10 error means that your oven temperature is detected as being higher than it should be. It’s actually a great safety mechanism—it prevents your oven from overheating and shuts everything off to avoid the risk of fire.
While this error code can mean your oven is too hot, it can also indicate a problem with the temperature sensor. This could mean that your oven is actually not at a super high temperature—the sensor has just incorrectly detected that it was.
Reset the oven
A great first step whenever you encounter any error code is to reset your oven. Sometimes, an error code can show up due to a random glitch or a surge in your home’s electricity supply. If this is the case, a simple reset will often clear the error, enabling you to start using the oven normally right away. Try these steps to fully reset your oven:
- Wait for your oven to cool completely. This may take a while if it’s reached a very high temperature. We recommend waiting about 30 minutes until it is cool to the touch.
- Flip the circuit breaker that corresponds to your oven to the “off” position. As most ovens are hardwired in, this is the easiest way to totally cut power to your oven.
- Wait for two minutes, then restore power to your oven.
- Check to see if the error code recurs once you turn your oven back on. If not, try heating your oven to a medium/ high temperature (between 400° and 450° F). If it achieves the desired temperature without the error code reoccurring, you can assume the issue is completely resolved!
Check the temperature sensor
If you reset your oven and the error code persists, the most likely cause of the error code is a faulty temperature sensor. This could be caused by something as simple as dirt and grime buildup, or the sensor could be broken. To clean the sensor:
- First, you’ll need to locate the sensor. In most oven models, you can find the temperature sensor at the top back of the interior oven cavity, but if you’re having trouble locating it, consult your Frigidaire manual. The sensor will look like a tapered metal bar, usually attached to the back wall of your oven with a plate and some screws.
- Make sure your oven is turned off, then thoroughly clean the temperature sensor. We recommend using a cloth dipped in a mild detergent and water mixture. If the sensor is coated in stubborn grime, try applying a paste of baking soda and water to it and leaving it for a couple of hours before removing it.
- Once the sensor is clean, try heating the oven to medium-high again to see if the error persists.
If the error is still occurring even though the temperature sensor appears to be completely clean, then the sensor itself may have malfunctioned. To fix this, you’ll need to test the sensor’s function with a multimeter, and if necessary replace it with a new one. Here’s what to do:
- First, disconnect the temperature sensor by unscrewing the mounting plate and disconnecting the attached wire.
- Take a multimeter set to ohms and test the sensor. At room temperature, it should read around 1080 ohms. If it reads more than five ohms on either side of this figure, it is not functioning correctly.
- Source a replacement temperature sensor from an appliance parts retailer, making sure it is compatible with your model of Frigidaire oven.
- Install the new sensor in place of the faulty one, ensuring it is properly screwed in place and the wiring is properly connected.
- Restore power to the oven and test to see if the error code recurs.
Replace the control board
If replacing the temperature sensor doesn’t solve the error code, your oven’s control board might be faulty. This repair is quite fiddly and difficult, so only attempt it if you’re confident in your electrical DIY skills. Some people will prefer to call a professional or consider purchasing a new oven if their control board is faulty.
- First, you’ll need to access the control board. In most Frigidaire ovens, you’ll need to remove the oven’s back panel. As before, if you’re having issues, make sure you check the Frigidaire manual for specifics relating to your oven model.
- Once you’ve located the control board, carefully inspect it for damage. A faulty control board will appear corroded or scorched.
- If you discover the control board is faulty, source a replacement part online, ensuring it matches your Frigidaire oven model. You can purchase directly from Frigidaire or through a second-hand appliance parts manufacturer.
- Remove the control board to ensure the oven is completely disconnected from the power. Take pictures of the wiring connections as you go so that you don’t have any issues when installing the new part.
- Take the new control board and install it in place of the faulty one.
- Put the back panel of the oven back on, then restore power to your oven.
- Heat your oven to test whether the error code has cleared.
